
Today in Montreal, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced new AI funding commitments will be included in the upcoming April 16 Federal Budget.
Here’s what today’s announcement included:
$2 billion for a new AI Compute Access Fund and a new Canadian AI Sovereign Compute Strategy to develop and provide access to computing capabilities and technological infrastructure.
$200 million through Canada’s Regional Development Agencies to boost AI start-ups to bring new technologies to market, and accelerate AI adoption in critical sectors.
$100 million through the IRAP AI Assist Program to help small and medium-sized businesses scale up and increase productivity by building and deploying AI solutions.
$50 million for the development of a new Canadian AI Safety Institute to better understand and protect against the risks of advanced or nefarious AI systems.
$50 million through the Sectoral Workforce Solutions Program for new skills training to support workers who may be impacted by AI.
$5.1 million to strengthen enforcement of the Artificial Intelligence and Data Act.
